Summer is in full swing, and I can tell you how important it is to lighten up your space when the weather is warm. Unfortunately, our 1856 farmhouse doesn’t have A/C, so I’ve found that swapping out curtains, decor, and even furniture has helped keep our space light and airy as the temperature rises.
Currently, we’re investing in some ‘drop cloth’ curtains. You may or may not know, but both Home Depot and Lowes have the equivalent of heavy linen bolts of fabric in the form of drop cloths. For only a hundred dollars or so, we’ve been able to slipcover our living room furniture- which is great for muddy feet and wet little bodies coming in from the sprinkler.
It’s really easy to jazz these babies up with different trim
Swapping out pillows is another great way to lighten up your spaces. Pottery Barn outdoor pillows hold up better to washing, and are cheaper:
Whether you go light and muted or bright and colorful- it does make a huge difference. Adding indoor plants like ferns or fresh topiary is another great way to bring the outdoors in.
Enjoy the weather now, because before we know it, it’ll be over.
